Klaveness FleetPerformance in a nutshell

In a situation where the dry bulk market is extremely low, it is more important than ever to optimize every single voyage. In order to support the voyage optimization, Torvald Klaveness will utilize and strengthen the organization’s fleet performance capabilities by establishing a separate department for fleet performance.

This department will be operational from January 2016 and will closely monitor the performance of all the vessels in the Klaveness’ operated fleet. The main objectives with the new department is to provide support to the operations and the chartering departments on all performance related topics, e.g.:

  • Contribute in voyage planning and execution for optimizing of every voyage in cooperation with operator, charterer and the captain
  • Monitoring of vessel performance comparing with vessel description and provide early warning in case of poor performance and assistance in speed claims handling
  • Provide updated performance status on all vessels and advise on possible actions to be taken in order to improve the performance
  • Assist in evaluation of potential vessels for chartering

All vessels are automatically tracked and monitored by MeteoGroup where the vessel tracking is automatic from AIS and Inmarsat-C. The monitoring is based on regular reporting via their reporting tool, EasyNoon, that will provide details on the vessels fuel consumption to main engine, auxiliary engines and boiler as well as the vessel draft and trim. The data is available trough the RouteGuard web portal by MeteoGroup where alerts are provided in case any vessel is not performing as expected. In addition, Klaveness has established an API connection directly with MeteoGroup in order to have all the data available for detailed analysis, benchmarking and trending. Experience so far on the owned fleet has shown that improvement in ship efficiency by up to 20 % is possible when all departments are working together in optimizing each voyage and to use the vessel monitoring as decision support for implementing improvement initiatives.
